Things
To Remember

The Center For Hyperbaric Medicine requests that prior to
treatment
patients not use the following products :
-
Oils or
grease
this includes hair oils, lotions, Geri Curl,
hairweaves, etc.
-
Hair spray and
wigs.
-
Make-up
most make-up is
oil-based.
-
Deodorants and
anti-perspirants
-
Perfumes and fragranced body
lotions,
oils,
etc.
The Center For Hyperbaric Medicine requests
you do not
bring the following to
the unit while receiving treatments
:
-
Matches
-
Cigarettes
-
Lighters
-
Flammable Material
-
Jewelry,
hairpins or barrettes.
(as they may cause sparks or
scratch
the chamber).
Rings may be
taped if necessary.
-
Any metallic objects including watches or
coins.
-
Reading Materials as
they may generate static
electricity.
-
Loose fitting dentures (tight fitting dentures are acceptable)
-
Hard contact lens (soft contacts are permitted)
-
Hearing aids (they may have a
battery
inside)
-
Hand warmers (for example types used by
hunters)

it can cause sparks from static electricity)
Special Considerations
:
Wound dressings will be evaluated by
the HBO staff,
in instances where oil based products are prescribed, the wound
area may be cleansed or
wrapped in a 1 00% cotton towel to decrease flammability.
Diabetic patients blood glucose level will be
tested by finger stick prior to
and immediately after HBO treatment. A 50
point drop in
blood glucose level can occur after HBO
therapy. The Center For
Hyperbaric Medicine requires a
blood glucose level above 100
mmhg prior to initiating hyperbaric oxygen therapy in
the diabetic patient. Eating a
meal prior to
coming for treatment should resolve low
blood glucose levels.
If you are taking medication, please continue to
do so as you normally do. Diabetics using insulin should continue their daily routine including following their prescribed diet.
